Job Summary: The welder is responsible for assembling, welding, cutting, and brazing metal pieces and products using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. Works independently with minimal supervision and works well in a team environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding, including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in various forms.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship
  • 5 + years of welding experience

Level I

A01-Entry : Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. May require 0-1 year of general work experience.

Level II

P02-Intermediate : Typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.

Level III

A03-Senior : Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Typically requires 3-5 years of related experience.
