Paint Production Manager

El Cajon, CA, USA Full Time
Compensation: $25 to $40 Hourly

The Paint Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day painting and surface preparation operations. This hands-on leadership role ensures that coating projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards in compliance with applicable specifications (NAVSEA, commercial, or as required). The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in industrial coatings, holds a current paint inspector certification, and communicates fluently in both English and Spanish to effectively lead a bilingual workforce.

Key Responsibilities Production & Scheduling • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily paint production activities across all shifts and work sites. • Assign crews, allocate equipment, and sequence work to meet project milestones and delivery deadlines. • Monitor production progress and adjust resources to resolve scheduling conflicts or delays. • Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and clients to align on scope, specifications, and expectations. Quality & Inspection • Perform and oversee paint inspections in accordance with applicable coating standards (SSPC, NACE/AMPP, MIL-SPEC, or project specifications). • Verify surface preparation (abrasive blasting, power tool cleaning, etc.) meets specified cleanliness and profile requirements before coating application. • Conduct wet-film and dry-film thickness checks, holiday/continuity testing, and adhesion tests. • Document inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions in project QC records. • Serve as primary point of contact for third-party inspectors and owner representatives during inspections. Personnel Management • Directly supervise painters, and helpers; conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching. • Facilitate bilingual (English/Spanish) communication to ensure all crew members understand instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards. • Manage overtime assignments in coordination with HR/payroll and project scheduling needs. • Identify training needs and coordinate technical skills development for paint crew. Materials & Equipment • Manage coating material inventory; coordinate procurement requests with the procurement team. • Oversee maintenance, calibration, and safe operation of spray equipment, blast pots, compressors, and measurement instruments. • Track material usage, wastage, and costs against project budgets.
