Job Description
Nokia is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support EHS operations across its California manufacturing sites in Sunnyvale and San Jose.
In this role, you will report to the Site EHS Engineer and assist in a wide range of EHS-related activities, including data collection, safety inspections, and coordination with contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies. You will also serve as a key point of communication between the two sites, ensuring alignment and consistency in EHS practices.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment for employees working in semiconductor manufacturing, development labs, and office settings.
This role requires a strong on-site presence (5 days per week) to support ongoing operations at facilities that run 24/7. Flexibility is essential, as occasional after-hours response may be required to address urgent EHS matters.
Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include the following tasks/programs
Environmental
- Manage hazardous waste, including storage, tracking, reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Oversee chemical safety programs (handling, storage, and emergency planning)
- Support and audit the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Monitoring/performing hygiene assessments
Safety
- Knowledgeable in both understanding and implementing OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements
- Lead and support Emergency Management and Response activities
- Conduct or participle in incident investigations and perform root cause analysis
- Perform routine site safety inspections
- Monitor and control hazardous chemical usage in accordance with safety standards
- Lead and manage onsite Emergency Response Team

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline
- Experience in EHS roles in Telecommunications, semiconductor processing facility or similar operations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and drive safety improvements.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to lead initiatives and work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Other responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within a team environment, providing support and acting as a delegate when needed.
- Participate in EHS and business unit meetings, forums, and discussions.
- Prepare and deliver periodic reports on Environmental, Health & Safety performance (both internal and external)
