Machinist (Union, 1st &2nd shift)

Position Overview: As a Machinist at Vulcan Metals Corp. based in Tacoma, Washington, you will play a crucial role in the production process, operating various machinery to manufacture precision components for our diverse range of products. You will work as part of a skilled team in a dynamic manufacturing environment, contributing to the production of high-quality parts that meet customer specifications and quality standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Run & operate medium to large Conventional Vertical Lathe's & Horizontal Boring Machines along with miscellaneous lathes & milling operations.
- Set-up and program machine equipment
- Work to hold Scheduling and maintain a good workflow
- Create maintenance work orders as needed to keep the equipment and tools in good working order
- Perform preventative maintenance necessary for the Machine Tool
- Participate in cost saving or process improvement projects
- Maintain good housekeeping at your work station
- Immediately correct safety issues that are within your area and alert management to any safety issues that need further attention
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Understanding of all the basic and advance tooling application on conventional and CNC machine workstations
- Apprenticeship certificate or equal is a plus
Experience:
- 3-5 years of CNC machining experience required
- Experience in operating overhead crane preferred
- Experience running and operating conventional medium to large vertical lathes & horizontal boring machines with programming at the machine tool work station preferred
- Heavy industrial or foundry experience preferred
Skills and Knowledge:
- Computer skills and CNC programming knowledge preferred
- Advance blueprint reading and basic understanding of geometric dimension tolerancing
- Ability to use various methods of measurement tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Self-motivated and able to work well with others
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to use arms, hands, legs and feet in repetitive motions
- Must be able to twist, stoop, bend, and stand in the performance of job duties
- Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration of the shift
Pay Range: $26.44 - $41.62 per hour, (depending on experience) plus shift differential pay for swing shift
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00AM- 3:30PM or 3:15PM - 11:45PM
**If training is needed day shift 7:00a-3:30p would be required for training time, this can last from 1 to 6 months depending on amount of training needed**
