Job Title: Military and Commercial Crater and Packager
Pay Range: $20.00-$26.00 /hr
Job Type: Part-time, potential for full time
Position Summary
The Crater/Packager is responsible for preparing, packaging, and crating military and
aerospace components for secure shipment. This includes handling non-standard items,
interpreting technical specifications, and ensuring compliance with military packaging
standards to prevent damage during transport.
Key Responsibilities
• Receive and understand packaging requirements given from blueprints,
specifications, or verbal instructions
• Build custom crates containers using woodworking tools and banding equipment
• Secure items using blocking, bracing, padding, and weatherproofing techniques
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
• Inspect containers and packaged items to ensure quality and compliance
• Label and mark shipments according to military standards
• Coordinate loading and unloading of sensitive or oversized items
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols
Required Skills & Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Carpentry or woodworking experience
• 1–3 years of experience in packaging, crating, or logistics (military or defense
industry preferred)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Proficiency with hand and power tools (e.g., drills, saws, nail guns)
• Forklift and crane certification (or ability to obtain)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• U.S. Citizenship (required for security clearance eligibility)
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience with military packaging standards (e.g., MIL-STD-2073, ASTM
D3951)
• Carpentry or woodworking background
Work Environment
• Warehouse or manufacturing setting
• Requires standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and repetitive motion
• Use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots
• May involve exposure to loud noises and varying temperatures
• Teamwork and cross training
