Job Purpose

Gelest, Inc., part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our Maintenance team.

The Maintenance Mechanic plays a key role in keeping production and facility operations running safely and efficiently. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to repair, install, and maintain a wide variety of industrial equipment and systems in a collaborative manufacturing environment.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain utility and production equipment to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and daily equipment checks.
  • Support indoor and outdoor facility and building maintenance activities.
  • Complete maintenance logs, work records, and related documentation accurately.
  • Receive, organize, and stock maintenance supplies and replacement parts.
  • Safely handle, label, and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with company procedures and regulations.
  • Follow all environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures, including required training programs.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and vendors to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve issues.
  • Read and interpret documents, charts, manuals, and technical information related to equipment and maintenance procedures.
  • Apply basic mathematical concepts in practical maintenance and troubleshooting situations.
  • Work overtime as needed to support business and operational requirements.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge / Skills / Experience

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment and systems.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions, diagrams, schedules, manuals, and schematic drawings.
  • Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical devices and systems preferred.
  • Experience with lockout/tagout procedures and safe maintenance practices.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, production needs, and unexpected equipment issues.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and work across a variety of maintenance disciplines and equipment systems including:
    • Pump repair experience, including positive displacement and centrifugal pumps preferred.
    • Welding experience using SMAW and GTAW processes with steel and stainless steel preferred.
    • Pipe fitting experience with threaded and welded piping systems including steel, stainless steel, and fiberglass preferred.
  • Safely perform physical tasks including gripping, twisting, climbing ladders and stairs, squatting, standing, walking, and working in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly and move or roll 55-gallon drums.
  • Ability to read small print and distinguish colors accurately.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials and industrial equipment when necessary.

  • The salary range for this position is $23 - $36. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
