Temp - Senior Engineer (Stability Naval Architect)

SUMMARY
Prepare and maintains, as required, design studies, proposals, diagrams, BOMs, purchase specifications, engineering calculations, test memos, test reports, other test documentation, and pre-contract design packages as assigned under minimum supervision. Provide guidance to lower level engineers and perform as a design checker. Communicate with other departments and provide them with technical assistance or information when needed. An effective point of contact in system specific discipline.
Lowest level for designation as "Cognizant Engineer" able to operate without close technical direction. Completes all tasks within schedule, budget and quality commitments. Work products are accurate and conform to high standards of quality.
Functions include performing intact and damaged stability calculations, creation of Trim and Stability Booklets, and watertight boundary/safety documentation through all stages of ship design and construction. Applies Load Line rules and addresses down flooding, cross-flooding, and progressive flooding issues. Involved in tonnage calculations and freeboard assignments and generates tank tables, capacity plans, and related documentation. Thorough understanding of ship volume, buoyancy, compartmentation, weights, and centers influences on ship design. Uses domestic and international maritime regulations, Classification Society requirements, US Navy standards, and direct analysis to conduct work. Supports shipyard evolutions such as incline experiments and deadweight surveys, sea trials and ship dockings/undockings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Design analysis and support calculations for Engineering product development
Develop designs for one or more designated systems including diagrams and related BOMs using CAD/CAM system
Prepares Ship Specifications and estimates for new contracts
Provides assistance to other Engineers on request
Assists in analysis of tests, trials, and other experiments: noise surveys, vibration surveys, machinery signatures, and shaft alignment surveys
Interprets Regulatory Body Rules, US Navy Specifications and Industry Standards
Reviews vendor proposals and vendor drawings for compliance with specification or recommended changes. Prepares technical evaluations
of proposals and drawings, and resolution of vendor issues
Prepare scope for change orders and Engineering estimates
Prepare and/ or assist in the preparation of Purchase Specifications and Test Memos
Represent company on official business as directed
Communicates with other divisions/departments, internal and external customers, including owners and vendors in design related matters,
both verbally and in writing
Functions as design checker, as required
Able to effectively guide Design Transition teams
Demonstrates professional and business skill proficiency
Participates in Sea Trials
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; P.E. License desirable
Five (5) years' experience in relevant marine field
Three (3) years' experience in job specific discipline
Demonstrated efficiency within discipline
Well-rounded ability in multiple systems within subject field
Familiarity with shipboard equipment. Thoroughly conversant with regulatory body rules and regulations
Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Effective decision-maker requiring little guidance
Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs
