What You Will Do

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing commodities including raw materials, finished goods, plant equipment, and services. This role supports all aspects of procurement, including data analysis, cost management, system utilization, supplier negotiations, and contract administration. The Buyer plays a key role in executing commodity strategies that support operational and business objectives.

The Buyer supports procurement and supply chain operations, including planning, analysis, new product introduction, and supplier management to ensure continuity of supply and cost efficiency.
  • Manage and optimize procurement activities for assigned commodities, proactively identifying and resolving potential supply chain disruptions.
  • Partner with Production Planning to address material shortages, expedite critical components, and support fluctuating customer demand.
  • Analyze pricing and lead cost-reduction initiatives through negotiations, cost avoidance strategies, and market analysis.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, including sourcing, quoting, contract negotiations, forecast alignment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee purchasing activities for assigned commodities, including the procurement of complex or technical items requiring specialized knowledge and negotiation skills.
  • Monitor and manage MRP exception messages to balance material availability with inventory optimization and cost control.
  • Support new product introductions by assisting with sourcing, quoting, and contributing input on part design and engineering specifications.
  • Maintain accurate material master data within ERP systems to align with commodity strategies, inventory requirements, and procurement processes.
  • Support Strategic Sourcing initiatives through spend analysis, market research, and supplier performance tracking.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in purchasing processes and product knowledge for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage Phase-Out and End-of-Life (EOL) processes to ensure seamless transitions for materials and components.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals) and company standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


What You Will Bring

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)

Preferred:
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain principles
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive mindset with a strong sense of urgency and ownership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Foreign language skills (Spanish, German, or Chinese) are a plus
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
