Position Summary / Overview

Qnity has an exciting and challenging opportunity within our Electronics and Industrial business for a Senior QC Chemist, located in Newark, Delaware

This highly visible opportunity will lead the deployment of lab management systems and the improvement of work processes within multiple plant QC laboratories. The Senior Chemist will prove leveraged leadership for lab operations and improve test methods to enhance the productivity and reliability of lab performance. The chemist will lead qualifications of new and existing QC metrology and lab methods.

Key Responsibilities:

Assure the performance of laboratory metrology and the quality of QC data provided to produce and release products in accordance with Quality Management and Statistical Process Control practices.
  • Improve and maintain the effective operation of analytical systems and lab adherence to operational discipline and management systems.
  • Implement new QC metrology and verify the performance of existing QC metrology in accordance with statistical techniques including Measurement System Analysis.
  • Serve as a technical expert and first point of contact for metrology in multiple Poromerics and/or Polymerics laboratories. Directly perform troubleshooting and coordinate laboratory root cause investigations.
  • Perform and/or coordinate routine and non-routine complex analyses.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop, verify and implement new or updated test methods.
  • Develop, verify and implement new or updated long term stability verifications for metrology.
  • Independently coordinate, perform and maintain gage studies for new and existing metrology.
  • Ensure effective delivery of timely and accurate analytical results by the lab by creating and/or maintaining:
    • Sample submission process for routine and non-routine analyses
    • Calibration and validation of equipment
    • Training of other technicians, chemists and engineers
    • Effective data capture and data management systems
    • Information Technology tool management
    • Sample and inventory management
    • Controlled documentation (SOPs, EH&S, and other ODMS procedures)


Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates leadership by acting as the owner of assigned labs and metrologies. Provides regular updates to unit managers, area leaders, or other functional leaders on the health of their assigned area and lab.
  • Oversee and maintain the performance of metrology in multiple Poromerics and/or Polymerics QC laboratories.
  • Review non-routine analytical requests for value and alignment with goals.
  • Coordinate and implement response plans for requests.
  • Schedule and perform work according to the Sample Plan, maintenance and QC schedules.
  • Work with technical and business teams to implement and verify new metrology and testing methods.
  • Schedule and perform advanced calibrations and maintenance of analytical systems.
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting of analytical systems.
  • Collect samples that involve complex procedures.
  • Perform non-routine and complex routine analyses.
  • Monitor analytical systems, evaluate validity of data, apply statistics, interpret results, and take appropriate action.
  • Document, communicate, and archive analytical results, calibration and maintenance data.
  • Partner with the On-line Analyzer Technician to assure consistency of on- and off-line data.
  • Perform first line troubleshooting of laboratory IT and data handling systems.
  • Monitor and maintain calibration standards and consumable items.
  • Manage raw material and product retain samples.
  • Help troubleshoot plant and customer problems.
  • Implement and verify the performance of new equipment.
  • Assist in adapting and implementing laboratory IT and data handling systems to the needs of the unit.
  • Network with others to leverage technology, and problem solving and prevention.
  • Continuously improve EH&S and analytical performance.
  • Participate in reviews to identify opportunities to optimize the number of analyses performed online and in the lab.
  • Follow and train others on the AWP, analytical systems, and EH&S and ODMS procedures.


Skills and Knowledge

Technical
  • Understands the theory, capabilities, limitations, and applications of the analytical instruments used on a routine basis
  • In-depth instrument troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing analytical standard operating procedures.
  • Proficiency in developing test standards and carrying out complex standardizations and calibrations.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to, or managing, complex technical projects or problem-solving efforts.

    • Detailed knowledge of the Analytical Work Process and associated tools
    • Working knowledge of cGMP
    • Working knowledge of Six Sigma project methodology
    • Understand materials and supplies management process
  • Working knowledge of sample shipping processes
  • Understanding of importance of following and correcting procedures


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is required; a degree in Chemistry or related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of analytical laboratory experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Green belt certification
  • Familiarity with: MSA, GRR, CGMP, ISO, Auditing
