Pipefitters are responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting pipe systems, equipment, and related components on ship interiors/exteriors and shipyard facilities across a 63-acre site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read blueprints and plan pipe system layout, installation, and repairs.
- Cut, bend, thread, assemble, weld, braze, and secure pipes, fittings, valves, and controls.
- Inspect and test systems using gauges, hydrostatic testing, and observation.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, replace worn components, and perform general maintenance.
- Operate pumps and tools; properly store equipment.
- Work under intermittent supervision; perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
- Follow all safety, quality, environmental, and organizational policies; regular attendance required.
Physical & Work Environment Demands
- Daily transport of tools, equipment, and materials (10--70 lbs), including carrying 50 lb tool buckets multiple times per day over distances up to 500', stairs/ladders, ship structures, and confined spaces (34" inner bottoms, 18"x24" lightening holes).
- Regular lifting, carrying, and positioning of pipe, welding feeders, wire coils, pumps, elbows, flanges, valves, and bender components (36--70 lbs) at varying heights (floor to ~75").
- Frequent use of rigging and positioning tools (Chain Jack, Porta Pull, Porta Power) requiring lifts up to ~48 lbs and pushing/pulling forces up to 150 lbs.
- Routine pulling of hoses and equipment, climbing over framing, working on vessel sides, and hoisting tools (~46 lbs) using hand-over-hand techniques.
- Frequent operation of grinders, torches, and welders (up to 14 lbs), including overhead work, kneeling, lying down, and confined-space environments.
- Continuous use of hand tools requiring grip/pinch force (~10 lbs) and fine motor control.

- Must be 18 years old.
- Must be a U.S. Person.
- Must be able to work at heights.
- Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of construction materials/methods and basic blueprint reading.
Education/Experience
- 3+ years of experience; prior shipyard and pipefitting training/apprenticeship preferred
- Prior shipyard experience a plus
- Strong manual dexterity, spatial awareness, problem-solving, balance, focus, and physical strength.
