Position Summary

The Service Supervisor is responsible for leading Fairbanks Morse Defense's Field Service Technicians (Tech Reps) while overseeing the planning, coordination, and successful execution of multiple field service projects.

This leadership role combines project management, workforce leadership, operational planning, customer support, and continuous improvement to ensure every service event is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.

Success in this role requires exceptional organization, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities while supporting customers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.

What You'll Do

Lead Field Service Operations

  • Plan, direct, and manage field service activities to optimize labor utilization, meet customer schedules, and deliver exceptional service.
  • Coordinate and oversee multiple service jobs and projects while ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, labor expectations, and customer requirements.
  • Partner with Project Managers to successfully plan, execute, and monitor larger-scale service projects.
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination for field execution by aligning manpower, tooling, materials, logistics, and project schedules.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, resolve issues proactively, and communicate updates to customers and internal stakeholders.

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Schedule, dispatch, and support Tech Reps while balancing customer demand and workforce priorities.
  • Review daily service reports and Condition Found Reports (CFRs) submitted by field personnel.
  • Coordinate quality activities with the Quality Manager, including PCPs and T&I documentation.
  • Review and approve technician timecards and expense reports.
  • Assist with quoting and estimating service projects, including labor forecasting and execution planning.
  • Support project closeout activities through documentation review and continuous improvement initiatives.

Develop High-Performing Teams

  • Mentor, coach, and motivate technicians while fostering a culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and outstanding customer service.
  • Evaluate workforce capabilities and develop annual training and professional development plans.
  • Recommend staffing levels and participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring decisions.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, merit recommendations, and performance improvement planning when needed.
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture while proactively identifying and addressing workplace safety concerns.

Improve Processes

  • Develop and maintain standard work documentation, labor standards, and execution best practices.
  • Drive productivity improvements through process optimization, enhanced tools, and targeted employee development.
  • Collaborate across departments to continuously improve service execution and customer satisfaction.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Diesel Engine Technology or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum six (6) years of industry or military experience working on medium-speed diesel engines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
  • Flexibility to support customer and operational needs outside of standard business hours when required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Coursework in Project Management, Fundamentals of Supervision, or related disciplines
  • Minimum four (4) years as a Fairbanks Morse Field Service Technician
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in a service or field operations environment
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, PLCs, electronic engine controls, and Fairbanks Morse engine products
  • Experience using Oracle, Salesforce, or other ERP systems

This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NOFORN).

To meet this requirement, candidates must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Not hold dual citizenship
  • Provide proof of U.S. citizenship through one of the following:
    • U.S. Passport
    • U.S. Birth Certificate
    • Naturalization Certificate

Because this position supports U.S. Naval programs, compliance with NOFORN requirements is mandatory.
