Setup operator ensures continuous production flow by preparing, loading, and staging component reels onto feeders and pick-and-place carts. The role minimizes line downtime and prevents placement errors by ensuring the correct parts are installed accurately before a job starts.
- Accurately load electronic components into the correct feeder sizes and pitches according to the Bill of Materials (BOM) and setup sheets.
- Double-check component values, part numbers, polarity, and quantities against job documentation before handing feeders over to machine operators.
- Prepare and stage feeder carts for upcoming production jobs while the SMT line is currently running to reduce machine downtime.
- Inspect, clean, and perform basic preventative maintenance on feeders to prevent mechanical jams or misfeeds during production.
- Account for all materials received from the stockroom, print part labels, and return unused components correctly.
- Strictly adhere to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) guidelines and handling procedures for sensitive electronic components.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Basic understanding of electronic component identification (resistors, capacitors, ICs, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, setup sheets, and manufacturing process instructions.
- Comfort using basic computer systems
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- 1-3 years in electronics manufacturing or a similar fast-paced production environment.
- Basic understanding of electronic component identification (resistors, capacitors, ICs, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret complex assembly drawings, setup sheets, and manufacturing process instructions.
- Comfort using basic computer systems or manufacturing ERP/MES software to look up job lists and track materials.
